ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This year's AGM is at the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre on Monday October 29th, starting at 7.30pm.

A formal agenda will be issued nearer the date, but the evening will include the Chairman's Report from Bob Kempton, Diving Officer's Report (John Fletcher) and Treasurer's Report (Andy Bullard). There will be plenty of opportunity for questions!

This is also the evening you have the chance to stand for election to the 2001-2002 Committee. Don't forget that all Committee posts are up for election. If you're not sure what a job involves, but think you might be interested, contact Bob Kempton or the existing post holder (see page 2).

Key dates leading up to the meeting are:
Resolutions affection the Club's constitution to be with Pete Robinson by Monday 1st October
Nominations for Committee to be with Pete Robinson by Monday 8th October
Other resolutions to be with Pete Robinson by Monday 15th October
Formal agenda to be issued to all members by Monday 15th October

TRY-DIVE / EXPERIENCE SCUBA

This year's National Try-Dive event didn't attract quite as many through the door as last year, but it was another successful evening, with hopefully, some of the participants going on to the Experience Scuba and Club Diver courses.

The next Experience Scuba course is on the two Mondays immediately prior to the AGM, ie 15th and 22nd October. Don't forget to tell anyone who may be interested that places are limited and it is possible to book in advance. So, if there's anyone you know someone who wants to try out, contact Fletch and book their place. The next course after that will be early in the New Year, probably in February.

I know we've said it before, but publicity for courses is always needed. If you can help please let Fletch, Matt D or Bob know.

OBITUARY

It is very sad that we have to report the untimely death of one of our members, Tony Puffett, whilst diving with the Club in St Abbs recently. The exact cause of death is unclear at this time.

It was reported in the local press and on the BSAC website as follows:

"A 37-year-old Leicestershire man diving off the shore at St. Abbs died on Saturday after getting into difficulty. Crew members from the "Serina" reported seeing the diver in the water and alerted the St. Abbs harbour master. The inshore lifeboat took the man to the shore where an ambulance and helicopter were waiting but paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Police said there are no suspicious circumstances and a report was submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Our thoughts are with Tony's family at this time and although not well known in the Club I am sure that he will be sadly missed.

EMERGENCY CONTACT LIST

The recent incidents in the Club have highlighted a shortfall in the information that the Club holds. Although on all Club trips and diving days (including at Stoney), organisers have been gathering names, addresses and telephone numbers of people to be contacted in the event of an emergency, the Committee feels that this information should be held centrally. Details may then be passed to trip organisers as appropriate.

Pete Robinson will therefore be coming amongst you over the next few weeks, gathering information to complete the list. Subsequent updating will become part of the renewal process.
