CHAIRMAN'S CHAT

This issue of What's Bubbling is proving to be a bit of a milestone in terms of good news and bad news. The good news is that this is probably our biggest issue to date, with not only lots of current news, but, Dave's been trawling through his store of previously unreleased articles and has published a few of them. There is a reason for that, a cunning little plan you might say, which leads me to the bad news, for the Club anyway - Dave Mead has decided that, due to an impending change in his personal circumstances, this will be his last What's Bubbling as Editor. I'm sure you would all like to thank Dave for his tremendous efforts in putting together WB over the last few years. At it's highest point WB was acclaimed Club Newsletter of the month in DIVE magazine (it might have been DIVER at the time?) a couple of years ago. We wish Dave every success wherever life is taking him for the future.

The new diving season is well underway now with two successful trips to the coast having taken place already and Stoney Cove increasing in popularity as the temperature starts to rise!!

The social scene is also buoyant. The Annual Dinner, this year held at the Masonic was a great success. Thanks to Annette for the hard work in organising everything, to Jonathon and his band Guesswork for the entertainment and to Luis for the Masonic.

Claire has been working hard integrating us into the new BSAC training scheme and I think we are about there. What we seem to be short of is active instructors. At one time, not very long ago, we had about 20% of the membership qualified as either instructor or assistant instructor. Sadly this seems to have declined now. Any of you OWI's, CI's or ACI's out there, who might be able to help even in a small way, talk to Claire. If you feel you might be able to teach theory, practical or both, and want to know more about becoming an instructor, again, talk to Claire.

More details of diving, trip reports, training and the social scene can be found elsewhere in this issue.

Don't forget, if you have laid off diving for the winter, to dust the cobwebs off the kit and make sure everything is working before you hit the water. If in doubt, try it in the pool first.
