British Sub Aqua Club

Rugby Sub-Aqua Club

We are your local branch of the British Sub Aqua Club and are happy to welcome new members as either beginners or already trained divers in the recreational sport of Scuba Diving

Club Nights

The Club meets most Monday Nights at the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre in Rugby.
The evenings start off with classroom training usually at 7.30pm (although occasionally we have a slide show or talk by a visiting speaker), followed by Club notices and announcements at around 8.30pm.

At 9.00pm the action moves to the swimming pool, where you can put all that training into practice with qualified instructors, play octopush, try out new kit or just swim. We have a a short break at Christmas and a longer break during the summer holidays from this routine, but we still meet for a social drink 9.00pm on these Monday nights.

Training

The Club trains divers up to BSAC’s Dive Leader qualification as well as some additional skills courses. Further qualifications may be gained at a national level. All our instructors are qualified by BSAC and safety is paramount in everything we do.

Local Diving

We are very lucky in having the busiest and best inland diving site on our doorstep. This is a flooded quarry at Stony Stanton, near Hinckley. The facilities are excellent including a shop, air fills, excellent safety cover, and a sandwich bar. It is ideal for basic training, and the owners have deliberately sunk a helicopter, light planes, vehicles and a barge for more interesting dives and to prepare us for more adventurous diving at sea.

Club Diving Trips

The club runs regular week long and weekend trips during the year. Some of the week long trips go overseas. We regularly visit the Red Sea and often go further afield.

Other week and weekend trips go to the coast around UK. These often use the Club’s own fully equipped boat good for 6 divers, or charter specially modified commercial boats for up to 12 divers. As we are in the centre of the country we visit most coast during the year including the English Channel, North Sea, Isle of Man and Scilly Isles, West Wales and Scotland.

Holiday Diving

Once qualified you don’t only have to dive with the Club. As a member of Rugby Divers you are automatically a member of BSAC, whose training is highly regarded world wide.

You will have a qualification book which will be accepted everywhere. You may want to take a diving package holiday, or simply get a couple of dives in whilst away with the family. This is becoming more and more popular as people look to get more from a holiday than a sun tan, and both parents and teenagers can enjoy the sport together.

The Social Scene

Of course we’re also a pretty sociable bunch! Like most clubs we have various events throughout the year, which besides the annual dinner and presentation awards includes barbecues and meals in local pubs, often after a club dive meeting. Non- diving partners are always welcome.

‘What’s Bubbling’

The Club newsletter, ‘What's Bubbling’, issued about every four months, includes news of everything that’s happening in the Club, news from BSAC, details of forthcoming trips and social events, the Training Diary, articles about trips written by members, diving related articles from the press, and anything else anyone wishes to contribute.

The British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC)

The British Sub-Aqua Club was founded in 1953 and officially recognised by the Sports Council as the UK governing body of the sport in 1958. With more than 40 years’ of experience BSAC has become the largest diving club in the world, and a world-wide respected authority on recreational diving and diver training. The Club now has a membership of 55,000 in some 1,250 Branches in over 50 countries.
