FEBRUARY 2002

CHAIRMAN'S CHAT

So, here we are approaching spring already and a new diving season. In fact, the first trip to the coast is only 6 weeks (probably less by the time you read this!) away. Stoney Cove trips are a quiet at the moment with I am told more social divers than actual divers in attendance - at the Pub afterwards!!

Let's make the 2002 season a good one for everyone involved and above all a safe one. So, start thinking about it now - get that kit back into peak condition and the mind and body ready to tackle those dives. The pool is there on Monday nights to practice in if you don't fancy Stoney until it warms up a bit.

Behind the scenes a lot has been going on to try and ensure the Club provides the safest possible environment for members to dive in but the bottom line is still with you the members to make sure it happens. Changes to the diver instruction have been outlined by Fletch and were published in the last WB. More members' details than ever before are now being held by the Club and will be available for trip leaders. Open water kit has been upgraded, particularly regulators, with the addition of environmental sealing, dive timers and compasses. Dive Log Sheets are available (as they always have been) and should be used (which they haven't always been).

Membership Renewal will see a change this year. As you know we operate a Common Renewal date (CRD), which is 1st April every year. It makes life easier for both us as a Club and BS-AC. This year you will not only receive you Renewal Notice but also the Self Certification Medical Form and the Clubs own Membership Details Form. The first 2 are now mandatory requirements of membership. In other words we can't process your renewal through BS-AC without evidence of fitness to dive.

Finally we are about to encounter some disturbance to our normal routine on a Monday evening. Scheduled (95%) to start on 25 Feb 2002 are major refurbishment works on the Changing Rooms. This is due to last approximately 10 weeks and will involve completely gutting the area and replacing the tiles on the floor for some that you don't slip on! Changing will be in the Dry Changing Rooms down towards the Squash Courts with a matted tunnel back to the poolside by the lift. Our storage area may also be affected but the Leisure Centre will provide some alternative storage if necessary.

Good Diving
