A belated trip report from 2000 ...

Bovisand weekend

By John Cooper

15th/16th July 2000 Divers: Fletch, Dave Daynes, Mike, Darren, Clive, DJ & John

Fletch asked me to organise another Bovisand trip this year (I have organised a few of these in the past). For a change the weather was very kind to us and we had some of the best underwater visibility I have experienced at Plymouth.

I twisted DJ's arm (or was it his leg) to tow the RIB down and skipper for the weekend. Saturday it was planned to dive the Elk and the (well known) J.E.Layne. We spent about 11/2 hours looking for the Elk using some GPS co-ordinates (how does that GPS work?) and my transits (why was that aircraft carrier moored there?). Anyway we dived the JE Layne and returned in the afternoon to successfully dive the Elk. The conditions were perfect with10m vis and sun filtering through the superstructure on the JE Layne. The Elk at 30m was clearly visible as you came down the shot line.

Back to Bovisand for the usual Saturday night - a bit quiet at Bovisand at the moment with hardly any sports divers (just a few trainee professional divers). A few years ago Bovisand was packed out at the weekend - this time we were the only RIB launching!

Dave Daynes entertained us with stories of his extensive vacuum cleaner collection. Anyway after a few beers it was an early night and a good nights sleep, although everybody else was woken by someone falling down a flight of stairs. (I never heard a thing)

All types of Stunt work undertaken - reasonable prices!

Sunday was another good day with a dive on the Poulmic (didn't see much wreckage) and the breakwater fort scrap yard.
