A more suitable place for meetings? We find ourselves in The Crèche !!

Those of you who have been to the Sports Centre meetings over the last few weeks will be aware that we have been ‘evicted’ from the meeting and now find ourselves in the crèche.

Matt Bullen met with Andy Burstin (the Centre Manager), who explained why the change had been made. Very briefly, the Borough Council (who own the centre and who contract DC Leisure to manage it) told the Centre that they should be providing a staff room, and since the only suitable room was the old meeting room, then that was where it had to be. The change had to be made at short notice.

The only other room at the Centre anywhere near suitable for us was the Crèche, so that was where we had to be.

From our point of view the annoying (to put it mildly) aspect of all this was that it was all done without any notice being given whatsoever, despite the fact that all it would have taken was for someone to pick up a telephone, or without any sort of apology (until Matt’s meeting). The first we knew of any change was when John Fletcher arrived at 7.20 on a Monday night.

The crèche will be available from 7.30 (as was the meeting room), and chairs for 12, an instructor’s table, overhead projector and screen will all be provided as before.

The move means that we have lost the use of the large noticeboard in the meeting room. The Committee will discuss this at its next meeting on 5th December, but it seems inevitable that we will have to go for some sort of portable solution (which will have the advantage that it could also be taken to the poolside and bar), backed up by greater use of the corridor ‘advertising’ noticeboard (whenever they get round to putting it back up).
